The Know India Programme (KIP) is a three-week familiarisationprogramme for Indian Diaspora youth conducted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs with a view to promote awareness of India, her socio-cultural diversity, her all round development, her emergence as an economic powerhouse, as a centre of higher education, and the ongoing developments in various fields including infrastructure, information technology, etc. The participants are provided local hospitality, including boarding & lodging in State guest houses or budget hotels, and internal travel. They are granted gratis Indian visa. 90% of the international airfare by the cheapest economy class travel is reimbursed.·TheProgramme is organized in partnership with the State Governments. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is·the organizational partner. The total number of participants in any of the Programme may not exceed 40. Participants may not leave the programme mid-way, they are expected to follow the entire programme as a group and stay at places designated / selected for this purpose. Twenty seven such programmes have been organized up till now in partnership with different states.

(a) Visiting Indian university, colleges or academic institutions.

(b) Industrial visits.

(c) A village visit.

(d) Exposure to Indian media and film industry. 

(e) Presentations on India and her Constitution, political process, etc.

(f) Interaction with NGOs 

(g) Call on high dignitaries, which may include the President of India, Ministers of Overseas Indian Affairs, Youth Affairs and Sports, Women and Child Development.

(h) Visit to places of historical importance and monuments. 

(i) Cultural events.

 














Eligibility



The programme is open to the youth of Indian Origin (excluding NRIs) in the age group of 18-26 years as on the first day of the month in which the programme is expected to start.

The candidates should either be studying at the under-graduate level or have completed under-graduation or equivalent.

They should be able to converse in English. (They should have studied English as a subject at the High School level or should have English as a medium of instruction for the under-graduate course).

They should have distinguished themselves in a particular field and should have abiding interest in India

They should not have participated in any previous Know India Programme or Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth.

The Next Know India Programmes i.e., 28th and 29th to be conducted during 2014 will have Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh as the partner states.  Details are as follows:
