A senior Indian police officer, Mr. Ashok Chand, arrived in Belize on 28 January 2013 to assume charge of Advisor to the Commissioner of Police, Belize Police Department.

Before taking up his current assignment, Mr. Chand, a senior officer of the Delhi Police, was holding the charge of Additional Commissioner of Police in Delhi. He has been deputed to Belize under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme of the Government of India for a period of one year. Mr. Chand’s duties will include assisting in the development of crime reduction and investigation strategies and evaluation of organizational strategies.

The assistance to the Ministry of National Security of Belize is an expression of the warm, friendly and cordial relations between India and Belize, both fellow members of the Commonwealth.

India also extends support to Belize in other areas, including scholarships and training programmes in various fields.

Ambassador of India to Mexico, H.E. Mr. Sujan R. Chinoy, who is concurrently the High Commissioner to Belize, will inaugurate in February 2013, an IT centre with 50 computers gifted by the Government of India, at the St. John’s College in Belize.
