Ambassador Sujan R. Chinoy's visit to Nuevo León, 6-8 March 2013

Ambassador Sujan R.Chinoy visited the northern border state of Nuevo Leon from 6-8 March 2013 to engage the local government and entrepreneurs in deepening economic ties between Mexico and India. Ambassador Chinoy was received at the Governor’s Palace in Monterrey by Governor of Nuevo Leon state, Mr. Rodrigo Medina De La Cruz on 7 March 2013. They reviewed the potential for promoting economic ties and investments between India and the state of Nuevo Leon, which is a border state situated just south of Texas in the US, and, in keeping with its status as one of Mexico’s most economically advanced regions and hub for high-tech manufacturing, enjoys a very high per capital GDP and income level, especially in the municipality of San Pedro Garza Garcia. Ambassador also separately met the Mayor of San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mr. Ugo Ruiz Cortes, and discussed bilateral cooperation, including the possibility of installing a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in a public park at the request of the local government.

Ambassador Chinoy also visited SOFTTEK, Mexican software company that has recently invested US $26 million in Bangalore, flowing from its acquisition of SYSTECH Integrators. SOFTTEK is the first Latin American company to invest in the software sector in India as a service provider. He also had in-depth interactions with INFOSYS BPO LIMITED of India, which has established a presence in Monterrey to service clients in Mexico, US and the Latin American region.

Ambassador’s tour of the Innovation Institute of Technology Transfer enabled him to review the potential for high-tech collaboration between the two countries. Ambassador also toured the “TECNOLóGICOde Monterrey” campus in Monterrey, accompanied by the Rector, Dr. David Garza Zalazar and interacted with students and faculty on possible areas of cooperation and exchanges with institutes of higher learning in India, especially in high-tech areas.

Ambassador’s meeting with representatives of Mexican companies from Monterrey that have an established presence in India, such as RuhRPumpen Group, which has an investment in Tamil Nadu for manufacturing pumps, enabled him to understand the requirements of Mexican investors.
